Cleaning and Organizing with #MurchisonHume and a Murchison-Hume Home Starter Kit Giveaway #MomsMeet2/20/2016

We recently moved into a home that is much larger than any home we have lived in. As much as we enjoy living in a large home, there is a lot of square footage to keep clean so I was thrilled when given the opportunity to review Murchison-Hume cleaning products.
Murchison-Hume was created by former Fashion Editor and mother of two, Max Kater when her son developed allergic sensitivities to common household cleaning products. She made it her mission to create cleaning and personal care products that would be safe, easy to use, beautiful, and effective. All of their ingredients are of the highest quality and their formulations are designed to be highly effective, while maintaining product safety and stability.
My 4 year old loves to help clean and since he is still home with me, he gets to help a lot. I am very careful about the cleaning products I let my kids use since I don't want them exposed to harmful chemicals. Murchison-Hume products are 99% natural so I feel safe letting the kids help clean with them.
Just the Facts
Admittedly, we let the master bathroom get a little out of hand. So with a little organization and the help of Murchison-Hume ladies' bathroom cleaner, everyday furniture and upholstery cleaner, and premium glass polish we have a relaxing and beautiful bathroom again.
I purchased two plastic (his and hers) utensil trays to hold our toiletries that we keep easily accessible.
My four year old and I tackled the vanity, mirrors, and sinks getting everything sparkling clean. Then I sorted through all of the items cluttering the counter and decided which needed to stay and which could be stored in the cabinet. Lastly, we organized toiletries into the new his and hers organizing trays.
I love the new organized and clean bathroom.
I used Murchison-Hume Spit & Polish Stainless Steel Cleaner on the dishwasher.
It cleaned up beautifully with a smudge free shine.
I love the Effortless Floor Cleaner and the Counter Safe All Purpose Cleaner because they are easy to use for bigger jobs or quick clean-ups and they are safe to use around children. All of these cleaning products leave a pleasant scent which I love since I hate the harsh chemical scent of most cleaning products.

Disclosure: I received a copy of Absolute Mayhem for review purposes only. All opinions are honest and are my own. I am really excited to share this new childrens book with you. One of my best friends is friends with the author, Kelly Suellentrop. Kelly wrote and illustrated this clever and whimsical book which shows how our imagination enables us to see a whole new world full of adventure and of course... a little Mayhem. As Lulu and Milo go about their mundane, normal, weekly routine of chores, homework, and eating vegetables, their minds will occasionally wander and they anticipate the fun adventures that await when the weekend arrives, and with it, Absolute Mayhem. My boys and I really enjoy reading this story. They love when Lulu and Milo start imagining and the colorful tentacles of Mayhem start to enter the black and white weekday scenes. The colorful scenes in which the characters' imaginations are running wild are so vivid. Our favorite scene involves some playful monkeys' silly shenanigans, as they roast marshmallows and scavenge outside of Lulu and Milo's tent. My five year old laughs out loud and points and tells me all of the things he sees in this scene. Let the Mayhem begin. You can order your very own copy on Amazon or Kelly Suellentrop. These would make great Christmas gifts! Enter to win. One lucky reader will win a copy of Absolute Mayhem! Disclosure: I received a copy of Absolute Mayhem for review purposes only. We planned a train party for my son's 3rd birthday. This is such a fun theme. We found our paper products, Thomas stickers, table cloths, adorable train track table runners, train centerpiece, Thomas favor pack for the pinata, a red divided tray, and train suckers for cupcake toppers at Oriental Trading Company.

The Food:
I didn't really have a theme as far as food was concerned. Just good food that would be enjoyed.
It was a really hot day so it was nice to have a cold offering. The jello cups were a hit and were easy to make. In keeping with the train theme, I layered green, then red, then blue jello in each cup letting each layer firm up in the fridge before making the next layer. I chose green, red, and blue since they are common colors from Thomas and his Friends.
Loving this red serving tray from Oriental Trading Company. I'm sure I will use this a lot when entertaining. And look at the train track table runner peeking through. So cute!
I set up an art table for everyone to decorate their loot bags. You can really see the train track table runner here. It might be my favorite party decoration ever and it makes a great table weight holding the table cloth down in the wind. The train centerpiece was perfect for the art table. And the train tickets came in the favor pack. I just set them on the table for kids to put in their loot bags. So much cute stuff all from Oriental Trading Company.
Full view of the awesome train track table runner.
Our pinata was so heavy with candy and party favors that it only took one blow to bring it down. The kids didn't care. They excitedly gathered up candy and Thomas toys (from the favor pack from Oriental Trading Company) to fill their loot bags.
I decided on cupcakes because they are so easy and I knew these train suckers from Oriental Trading Company would make great cupcake toppers. Look at the detail, they are amazing. They came individually wrapped and in tiny bubble wrap too so that they wouldn't break during shipment.
Red and blue cupcakes to fit in with the Thomas theme. I made this cupcake recipe with vanilla frosting which was delicious, but the icing started melting quickly in the heat.
1, 2, 3 birthday candles!
Blue icing bliss... What more could you want?

It doesn't get much better than brownie bites with CADBURY MINI EGGS. These are the perfect addition to your Easter celebration that will delight both young and old alike.
I love how easy these are to make. Simply bake your favorite brownie recipe in mini muffin pans. I made my favorite, Coconut Oil Brownies. You will need to reduce the cooking time and possibly the oven temperature depending on how crispy you want the edges to be.
I reduced the cooking time to 12-15 minutes and baked them at 350 degrees F. This recipe makes really moist brownies so it works well for the smaller mini muffin size. I used my cookie dough scoop to put the batter in the mini muffin cups. It was easy and just the right amount of batter. The boys assisted with scooping batter into the muffin pan too (with careful supervision).
While still warm, I pushed in the tops of the brownies with a spoon to make little nests.
Cool on a wire rack. Then after they cool place CADBURY MINI EGGS in each nest. This is a fun job for any little helpers you may have.
For an enchanting display, nestle them in Easter grass on your serving tray.
HERSHEY'S has everything you need for Easter. The boys will be excited to find their baskets filled with HERSHEY'S candy on Easter morning.
Feeling crafty? You can make a cute recycled milk jug Easter basket out of an empty milk jug. I found a cute edible craft to make candy race cars that the boys would love too. You can find all kinds of recipes and crafts at the Celebrate with HERSHEY'S site.
If you love HERSHEY'S Candy as much as we do, enter to win my giveaway featuring an assortment of HERSHEY'S Easter Candy (U.S. residents)

We received these Crayola products to make some Holiday crafts and have had such fun crafting as a family. My husband who is pretty artistic made some pretty cool decorations and the boys got really creative too. The boys made all kinds of things out of Model Magic this afternoon. There is quite a collection of small ornaments and creatures drying in the kitchen.
My husband made this Noel ornament last night with Model Magic. It is drying now, but will look lovely on the tree.
My very creative husband also made this charming homemade wrapping paper with Crayola Slick Sticks on poster paper.
I added some Glitter Glue to some of the embellishments after wrapping this package. I love the subtle sparkle.
So have fun and get crafty this holiday. Enjoy crafting together as a family. Check out the Crayola Holiday Crafts Pinterest Board for more ideas.

Disclosure: I received products for review. All opinions are honest and are my own. We just celebrated our four year old's birthday with a dinosaur party. We invited his entire preschool class and everyone had such a fun time. One of the hi-lights of the party was the dinosaur dig. Oriental Trading Company sent us these awesome dinosaur skeletons and dinosaur eggs. My husband buried the dinosaurs and eggs in the dirt before the party. The kids really enjoyed the dinosaur dig and they got to take their "fossils" home with them. The dinosaur eggs open to reveal a tiny dinosaur inside. The children loved opening their eggs to discover which baby dinosaurs they had. Oriental Trading Company also sent us this spectacular personalized birthday banner. I love this design. It added so much to the ambiance of the party. We loved the birthday banner so much that we hung it on his bedroom wall. He loves it and likes being next to his dinosaur wall when looking at books until he falls asleep. Thank you Oriental Trading Company from a very messy and happy birthday boy.

A few weeks ago, we went on a once-in-a-lifetime European vacation with extended family. It was an amazing 12 day adventure through Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. Since we were taking our four year old and two year old, I knew I needed a diaper bag that could hold a lot of stuff and be both comfortable and rugged.
The award winning Okkatots Traveling "Baby Depot" Bag (affiliate link) was exactly what I needed. If you are traveling this summer with little ones in tow, this bag is a must.
This bag has many special features. My favorites are:
There are many more wonderful features. See more at Okkatots.
The only con I experienced with this bag was that sometimes it seemed a little big. I noticed this in some very tiny European elevators (I think some of them were 2' X 3'), but most of the time this was not an issue.
I wore this backpack everywhere and loved it. Above left we are at the Pantheon in Rome. This was my favorite building in Rome because it is still beautiful today and it was completed around 126 AD. The boys loved the fountains all over Italy. They ran to every fountain they saw.
Above right we were in the Swiss Alps. We were waiting for it to clear and it never did. It was still amazing. Our boys and my nephew thought it was awesome anyway.
Here is what you have been waiting for...you can win one of these amazingly functional Okkatots Traveling "Baby Depot" Bags in your choice of color. It comes in black, grey, and red.
This giveaway has expired and a winner was chosen.
Some things you may like for summer adventures:
My husband and I recently had the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary at the Chestnut Street Inn in Sheffield, IL. Located less than two hours drive from Chicago and Peoria, this is an award winning Inn owned and operated by a charming couple, Jeff and Monika Sudakov. From the moment we arrived we felt their hospitality and warmth. Our first night, we stayed in The Green Room. The Green Room was originally the maid's quarters. It is a three room suite consisting of a bedroom with a double bed and bathroom, a bedroom with a twin bed, and an enclosed dining porch. The dining porch had comfortable furnishings and a television. Each room or suite is equiped with Dish Network, and Wi-Fi. They even have a 1000 title movie collection from which you are free to borrow. This suite is beautifully decorated in soft colors. Below you can see the twin room and the dining table on the dining porch. We elected to dine in our suite the first morning and take advantage of the dining porch. We indulged in homemade corn and strawberry pancakes with maple syrup and butter. They were simply devine, with just the right mix of flavors. They had a wonderful texture and perfect crispness on the edges. Monika, I want this recipe! Our pancakes were served with bacon, sliced kiwi and banana, orange juice, and a selection of hot teas. It was pure decadence. Our second night, we stayed in the Blue Room. This room is a woman's dream: romantic and cozy all at the same time. The walls are covered in a soft blue botanical wallpaper and adorned with blue and white china accents. The queen bed has a white lace canopy and is covered in luxurious blue and yellow floral bedding. The TV in this room is enclosed in an Armoire so you can watch it or hide it if you like. Each room and suite has it's own bathroom. Complimentary bottled water and chocolates are provided in the rooms. Not just a couple of chocolates on your pillow, but a whole basket of chocolates! Snacks are provided downstairs in the Butler's pantry. The 1929 refridgerator is full of sodas and Perrier and Monika makes fresh-baked goodies for guests and serves them on the sideboard in the sun-porch. Pictured below is the Blue Room. The Chestnut Street Inn was recently featured in Midwest Living as one of the top Bed and Breakfasts in the Midwest. It was highly rated for its gourmet meals. Chef Monika does an amazing job of using locally grown ingredients and creating cullinary masterpieces that would satisfy even the most discriminating palate. You may dine at the Inn for evening meals by reservation only. We enjoyed an evening in and dined at the Inn on our second night. Our first course was a potato-leek soup. This was delicous; another recipe I would love to add to my collection. Our second course was a salad with pistachios, dried cranberries, feta (mine had smoked gouda since I am pregnant), and an amazing homemade dressing. I ate every single bite. The main course was a pasta dish with a mint pesto (fresh from their garden) topped with perfectly seared chicken and a creamy homemade sauce, all served with a thick and rich balsamic vinegar. While the food was absolutely wonderful, my only complaint about the dinner service would be that there weren't any choices. It was fun being surprised with each course and it was a bargain to enjoy a 4 course gourmet meal for around $30, but it still would have been nice to have a couple of options for the main course. We were so full after dinner that we and the other guests opted to wait an hour and return for dessert. My husband and I retired to the parlor and played board games for an hour and then returned for some of the best creme brulee we have ever had. We almost always order creme brulee when we dine in a nice restaurant. This creme brulee was spectacular. It was an orange blossom water and cinnamon creme brulee. We loved the delicate flavor and the perfectly caramelized sugar crust. We even asked Monika how she caramelizes the sugar so perfectly and she gladly shared her method with us. If you are looking for a relaxing, romantic, and delicious get-away, look no further than the Chestnut Street Inn.
