Nothing fancy here, just good simple food that our family loves. This is one of our favorite go-to meals that makes it into our menu plan frequently. Super casual and perfect for busy school nights. Paper plates are the way to go on taco night for this busy Mom.
I stay away from the store bought taco seasoning and prefer simpler, more natural meat flavored with fresh onion and any seasonings I feel like throwing in. This is one of my favorite uses for ground deer. I shred my own cheese because I prefer the softer texture without anything added to it and it is so easy to shred it myself. Most of the time we use store bought soft and crunchy taco shells, but every now and then I fry soft corn tortillas to make homemade crunchy shells (pictured above). I fry taco shells the same way I make homemade tortilla chips, I just leave them whole for taco shells and try to fold them with tongs while frying.
Ground beef or deer, cooked with a diced onion and any seasonings you like
Freshly shredded cheese
Taco sauce or salsa, if you like
Crunchy or soft taco shells
We serve family style at the table and the kids (with a little help) make their own tacos. They love it.
